Elean Perez was accepted into the National Youth Leadership Forum’s Summer STEM Program at Villanova University. His initiative and enthusiasm inspired the development of a pilot La Colectiva Youth Leadership Awards program for middle school-aged ELL students.

Indian River School District recognized Elean, a fifth-grader at North Georgetown Elementary, at their board meeting on February 24th at Sussex Central High School. He applied for and received the La Colectiva de Delaware (LCD) Youth Latino Leadership Award to cover the cost of the program, with the support of his teacher Wendy Mears and LCD steering committee member and teacher Gemma Cabrera.

The Arsht-Cannon Fund and the Matt Haley Trust fund the La Colectiva de Delaware (LCD) Youth Latino Leadership Award.
