La Colectiva welcomes Amal Reda as coordinator
Amal Reda will join La Esperanza in guiding and coordinating La Colectiva de Delaware in its mission to foster trust and cooperation among Sussex County’s nonprofits, governmental organizations and the Latino community.
“We’re very excited to have Amal on board. Together we are committed to supporting and growing the La Colectiva network, creating opportunities for innovative program development and, most importantly, working toward significant positive impact for the diverse Latino communities of southern Delaware,” said Dr. Jennifer Fuqua, executive director of La Esperanza.
Amal has been an intern for UnidosUS, the nation’s largest Latino civil rights and advocacy organization based in Washington, D.C. She worked as an online sales executive for Paradise Commerce; and, most recently, a homeschool teacher. She has developed skills in leadership, diversity, equality and inclusion. Amal has a bachelor’s degree in psychology and a master’s degree in international affairs from Lebanese American University.
Raised in Colombia in a Lebanese family, Amal believes her experience defines the work she will do at La Colectiva.
“I will always identify as an immigrant and take the discrimination and challenges faced by all immigrants personally and use it as the driving force that pushes me to create change and defy stereotypes,” Amal said.
As coordinator, Amal will encourage the active participation of current and prospective LCD Network members and partner organizations to identify needs and encourage educational opportunities for the Latino community in southern Delaware.
Dr. Christine Cannon, executive director at the Arsht-Cannon Fund at the Delaware Community Foundation, welcomed Amal as La Colectiva’s new coordinator.
“Her background, experience and enthusiasm are exactly what is needed as Delaware’s Latino-serving organizations work to build relationships, networks and collaborative approaches related to new opportunities and the most pressing needs for southern Delaware’s Latino families,” Cannon said.
