Zoom Mtg – Link will be sent to registrants.
Please join us on Monday, October 19th from 3:15 pm – 5 pm for our next La Colectiva de Delaware Convening, as we engage with the issue of cultural competence in community services. The time has never been more relevant to discuss how we can engage more effectively in a culturally sensitive way with our communities. COVID has demonstrated that too many families are perilously close to the edge of the safety net; and that we, as organizations and service providers, need to work harder to make opportunities accessible, and families empowered.
Our October 19th convening includes a dynamic and interactive session led by Matthew Peters, Chesapeake MRC Director, and Lorelly Solano, Chesapeake MRC Advancement Advancement Manager. They will describe how they have been able to successfully integrate cultural competence training into local municipal and nonprofit settings on the Eastern Shore, show the similarities in population trends between Talbot and Sussex Counties, and lead us in reflection on our own cultural competence.
Closing The Gap: Cultural Competence in Community Services
Chesapeake MRC actively promotes effective service provision for individuals from different cultures through their cultural competence presentations. These provide information about cultural diversity, cultural competence, self-awareness, cross cultural dynamics, and strategies for community integration. When delivered in Talbot County, this presentation highlights local demographic data, which helps the audience to appreciate the dynamic of our quickly changing population. To date, ChesMRC has provided this presentation to more than 1,000 individuals. Their evaluations indicate this has been a great resource to introduce this sensitive topic, triggering the development of new skills for effective cross-cultural dynamics.
