Greetings Network Partners,
My message this week is about care: the care that we take of ourselves and others, the care and empathy that we feel for each others’ struggles and grief, and the care that we have for the future.
It is clear the inequities faced by members of our community have increased exponentially during this crisis. The facts that we already knew about the barriers for immigrant and low-income families in Delaware, and in particular, those without documented status, are glaringly evident. We have been slapped in the face by the digital divide and made aware once again of the limitations of the safety net.
We have all been putting countless hours into disseminating information, providing access to critical services, and extending lifelines to assistance. As a network of organizations, we care deeply and passionately and serve in the most heroic ways. We respond in real time to rapidly changing situations and show care and compassion while we do. I implore all of us to take care of ourselves and those around us as we do this work. The struggle is real, and we have to be here for the long haul.
We have so many amazing organizations that are stepping up to share what they do well. I have seen great service from health and social service organizations, schools, churches, libraries, mental health organizations, grassroots and community-led action organizations, and education advocacy organizations. We have all worked together in ways that are unprecedented.
The momentum for this work needs to continue and grow beyond the provision of basic needs, and La Colectiva is here to support these collaborations with our member forum, financial resources and technical support. Lasting change and justice will be driven by our collective vision and passion.
There is a future, and we need all of us to create it.
In solidarity,
Dr. Jennifer Fuqua
