Greetings. My name is Laura Zuniga, and I am the new Director of Community Partnerships for La Colectiva. I come from the Great Lakes State, Michigan, and I am very excited to be here. I am the oldest of five children born to my Mexican immigrant parents. I was born in Texas but raised in Michigan in a very vibrant and typical Mexican-American household. Growing up with Spanish-speaking parents who at the time knew very little to no English, I learned to navigate resources in the community at a very young age. I guess you could say at eight years old, my first job was as my parents’ interpreter and secretary at times. With my very own eyes, I experienced my family’s success in the U.S. with help and guidance of people just like you.

I guess you can see this is the main reason why I feel so passionate about this kind of work. I have always felt that by contributing to the causes that aid in the growth of less advantaged populations, I am in a way giving back.

I have a Bachelor’s degree in Psychology with concentrations in Social Psychology and Behavioral Analysis. Through my career I have mainly focused on education through many forms, including early childhood education and adult education. I have experience working as a frontline employee but also in the administration and managerial sectors. I am currently working towards my Master’s degree in Administration of Human Services and hope to continue to strengthen my skills.

I am looking forward to working with you all and becoming familiar with your work.
Laura Zuniga
