The Votamos We Vote Coalition
New Weekly Radio Program

The Votamos We Vote Coalition accomplished its pre-election goals in 2020 and is moving to radio this year to reach the community.

The coalition twice sent more than 10,000 texts to Latinos registered to vote, as a friendly reminder to exercise the most sacred right in a democratic society. We also disseminated 12 short videos with Latinos — undocumented single moms, young adults and young U.S. citizens — motivating those eligible to vote to be the voice for the voiceless.

We hosted five pilot radio programs with pre-election information. That has led to a one-year commitment of a weekly radio program at ZMX 93.9 FM. In Spanish, the 30-minute program will be live on-air and on Facebook Live at 11:30 a.m. every Thursday.

The key to our accomplishments is the collaboration with 13 of the most significant civil rights organizations in Delaware. The American Civil Liberties Union, Latin American Community Center and the Delaware Hispanic Commission funded these programs.

Anthropologist Dr. Carla Guerrón Montero of University of Delaware co-hosts the program. “What we offer that is distinct (are) … the voices of those who are seldom heard,” she says.

The main slogan of Votamos We Vote is be the voice of the voiceless and exercise our right to vote. This radio program showcases the voices of undocumented people to inspire us to effective action.
